Corrupt hard drive.

Complete format. Everything gone.

I am not sure if you are on the same track. A format of any kind doesn't really clean a drive. What I am asking is...was it a format or was it a wipe. By a wipe ....I am refering to overwriting the drive with 0's(zeroes). This is a complete removal of information from the drive where as a format actually only removes the sections so as to make the drive unreadable.

I only had the one choice. Theyve all been turned to 0's if thats what you mean...

Did you run chkdisk to repair any bad sectors

How do I do that? I cant get into XP remember...

you can use a 98se boot diskette to perform it and then try to reinstall xp afterwards

Maybe you should check your RAM?

Try washing the xp cd with warm soapy water and try again. It could be a dirty or damaged cd.

I ran out and bought a SATA one. I couldnt help myself. Not the RAM nor the CD so must be the hard drive. Ill try see if works in XP now...
