I just got an Iomega 400r NAS, 1.4TB of storage, that is a sweet unit. I want to copy all the files from the previous aged file server that is still in use. Trouble is its still in use and some of the files I will be copying will be in use. Is there a program that can make a copy of the file over the network by taking a snapshot of the open file and then create a new one and paste the info in?

I am not sure this is the right spot for this sorry if not.

I think that using Shadow Copies has something to do with this.

As far as I know Shadow Copy is something that is Windows-specific. Unfortunately, I didnt learn very much about Shadow Copy in class, so I cant tell you much more.

no I thought of that too, shadow copy just makes an on the fly copy to a mirrored location for each file on the system, thus creating a backup for each file.
