Converting and burning divx's to dvd

I've been using BHA's B's DVD to try and transcode movies to burn to DVD with no luck. I'm getting errors saying "cannot write to disk" when I have a perfectly fine DVD-R in the drive. The same type I've written to a million times. Does anyone know of any good software I could try using instead. This came with the DVD-R/RW but doesn't seem to work??? Nero will only work if you have VOB files and such... I can encode them myself then use Nero to write them on one-by-one, but crappy dvd players freeze when I try them, while good one's don't...
