Upon checking Intel's site, is Intel Core Duo Supports Intel 975X Chipsets only? Conroe is designed at LGA775 socket right? I have a mobo with i845P chipset, will it still run?

Or in other way, if I buy for example a 975X board, will my current CPU (prescott 2.66 LGA) run on it?

What other chipsets does Conroe supports?

No, the Conroe will not run on your motherboard. Yes your current CPU will work with a new board. There is a thread at XS for all supported boards.

Don't buy an 975X now, just wait for the 965's, they will probably be 1/2-3/4's as cheap and be utilizing newer technology. Plus, you don't need it until Conroe anyway ...
