The Taiwanese manufacturer's PC shipments grew 84 percent during the quarter, allowing it to pull into a dead-even tie with Toshiba for the very first time: the two are tied, that is, for fifth-most PC sales during the quarter behind usual suspects Hewlett-Packard, Dell, Acer, and Lenovo.

Asus is now in the top 5 computer makers in the world... they deserve it, and there is no doubt my next laptop will be an Asus.

Congrats to them. I would like to see figures for these companies and a few others broken down by segment eg. server/workstation, desktop, laptop, independent hardware (motherboards, CPUs etc) and other

Interesting thought tom, I haven't owend a laptop but with the exception of one model that had the power jack in a bizarre place I have been impressed by them never replace thinkpad as my ultimate go to laptop make though.

Asus is now in the top 5 computer makers in the world... they deserve it, and there is no doubt my next laptop will be an Asus.

I thought the same thing awhile back when squaretrade posted the warranty statistics, but still haven't gotten around to actually buy one....

Poor heatsink design is the last of HP's problems. Making a quality computer with competent service would be a good first step I think.
