My uncle dropped off his computer at my house because his internet wasn't working. When I tried connecting to the Internet, it wouldn't connect. I hit the diagnose problems button on the page it sent me. It said that there was a hardware or driver problem. It said that the name of the ethernet controller was a Realtek RTL8101 Family PCI-E Fast Ethernet NIC (NDIS6.0). I found the correct driver and installed it. The computer doesn't even see the controller after installing the driver! Is it the wrong driver or is the card bad? Please help!

Roll back the driver, remove it completely from the system if you can, then go into safe mode and make sure there aren't duplicates in the device manager. Run a full malware bytes scan, let it fix anything then reboot. Don't use the latest driver for the Realtek Gigabit interfaces, I've had horrid luck with their latest drivers. Find one from 2008 if you can and install it, those seem to be the best for the gigabit nics for some reason.
