I have a fraps video of a game, it's around 200MB. I've tried to compress it via Virtualdub and the Divx Codec, though I don't get a nice clear image when I decompress it. I'm looking to put some of these videos on YouTube.

I also don't get sound when I am doing this. I am new to this, so I don't know much about video conversions/compression.

Any ideas? Directions? Thanks.

i mainly use Windows Media Encoder. I think it's only limited to avi, mpg or wmv...I can't quite recall. :D Strange that I use it so much but don't remember. It's mainly because I just like the MS formats.

you could also try media coder: MediaCoder - more than a universal audio/video transcoder
not very intuitive but does a good job

also it all depends on how much you are trying to compress, if you compress or shrink from say 420 to 280 pixels, height or width, you will of course get a lot less resolution. Also, I haven't used youtube in a while and know they used to reshrink your file automatically if it was too big. And I heard they are upping their file resolutions...still no idea :D

post might get moved maybe? hehe
