Will this external hard drive be compatible with my Dell Inspiron 8600 with usb 2.0?

-Western Digital My Book Essential 250GB External USB 2.0 Hard Drive

Just wondering because right now i have a problem with an external hard drive that is not externally powered and the usb hub has a power surge everytime i connect it.

Any input would be nice.

Well if the drive has it's own powersupply, then you shouldn't have any problems. Have you tried hooking the drive up to a usb port that's directly wired to the mobo? instead of into a usb-hub? If that works, just run other things off the usb-hub.

the USB hub should be able to supply more power than the MOBO in most situations....anyway yeah try what jbranum says and the WD Books i am pretty sure have an external PSU...

look it up it should say self powered or usb powered...
