im getting a new computer.. but the one im looking at doesnt come with windows xp.. it has media center or somethin like that. i have a xp cd at home. to change do i have to format the hard drive completely, then boot with a disk and then install a fresh xp copy? or is there an easier way

Windows XP Media Center is the same as Windows XP Home edition. The only differeance is that Media Center has the Media Center on it.

might as well leave media center if your going to install xp home. if you have pro, that a different story

Media Center is nice anyway, I like it. If your a Media freak.
If you really don't want it, stick linux on it.

If your going to install winXP pro then yes u will have to format the drive and stick in the installation cd and follow the instructions. Its actually really easy, i have done it many times without anyone showing me. U may be able to get away without formatiing, but do urself a favour, format. It cleans the drive and starts u off fresh! Its the proper way to do it. Once again, only do it if its winXP pro. No need to go from XP media centre to xp Home.
