CD-Rom Drives Problem

For some reason the default dvd/cd-rw on my computer won't read all cds, but it reads the windows cds, i figured its just a peice of shit. then i put on my old 56x cd rom drive from my old computer and i had the same problem when i restarted my computer Do you know if something is wrong with it?

how many types of CD's have you tried(software,music,data)? aslo are the CD's that don't read burnt?

I have tried software, data and music, its all them. And I tried burnt and original. Maybe its just that Windows XP Home SP2 with all the new updates f'ed up my pc.
