cd drive

when i built a new system i put a new cd drive in, i loaded the os no problem but then when it cam to adding other software the drive wouldnt pick up the disk, i tried changing jumper settings and making sure that everything was connected properly, even tried putting it on a different system, any ideas on why it is not working

What o\s have you installed on it?

You could go to device manager, delete it and reboot. It should be picked up straight away.

There seem to be a lot of machines here in the uk that have probs with c\d + cdrw's reading disks.

I wondered if this prob was from 98. If windows was booted from cd rom and a:\ sys c: was not put in?
