Well im buying a car, its not a Ferrari but it will get me from 1 place to another its a: 1996 Pontiac Bonneville SE with 280,000km on it.

My buddy is selling it to me for few hundred dollars, and it does need few things done on it like: Tires, air filter, new oil, ..... and other little stuff which i can do.

Now i called a Insurance Broker and asked them:
ME: "how much would a student as the first driver pay monthly?"
Crazy lady: "how old are you?"
ME: "18"
Crazy Lady: "Any tickets?"
ME: " no"
Crazy Lady: " what kind of vehicle is it?"
ME: " its a 1996 Pontiac Bonneville with about 280,000Km on it"
Crazy Lady: "SE Bonneville?"
ME: ya
Crazy Lady: "G2 license?"
ME: ya
Crazy Lady: 1 sec
Crazy Lady: as a first time insurance and a first car as a student, 8400 a year that would be around $702 a month
ME: *Hanged up*

702 a month , huh? ya right

i got my "Ministry - Approved Beginner Driver Education Student Record" course with 10hr 90% Driven and 92% Written and she given me this BS?
what is this....

You are still a full time student yes? Can't you get added to your parent's policy? I know i stayed on their policy until i was out of college just because it saved me a ton of money.

First time drivers generally will pay around a $100.00 a month. You can get a discount if you have taken a Drivers course. Oh and the $100.00 a month is liability only, I'm not sure what full coverage is. I go through State Farm insurance and that has been good for me. $702.00 a month??? Man who the heck did you call. They must think people are stupid too pay that.

Your best bet it to be put on your parent's insurance for now. you only need liability coverage since the car wouldn't be worth spit as far as Blue Book value goes.

If you have to go it on your own, your first insurance will be high. The big companies won't talk to you until you have been insured for at least three months. Once you cross that mark, you can get a better rate through one of the big names... usually.

The first car I bought my own insurance on was a 1981 Dodge Challenger. It was a Mitsubishi/Dodge and a pocket-rocket. Only three places would insure it, as it was on the black list. I was paying 1300 a year for full coverage, and this was in 1987. I kept the same coverage the whole time I drove the car. I let the insurance go on it... and then totalled it. It was a single car accident, so liability wouldn't have done me any good. Insurance wasn't required by law back then.

Yes i am , im finishing up high school right now (last Semester) and im going to College the next school year.
its only me and my mom, my mom already has a car that she uses (and occasionally i use) and im gonna be the first driver since its the second car.

Trotter this was the liability coverage. I didnt even bother asking for full coverage since i knew it wouldnt be worth insuring this piece of junk.

And i really do need a car since i take a bus to school every morning at 6am to get to school, Even in freezing temperatures here in Canada

i pay around $100 buck a month for bus tickets abd it takes me about 1:10hrs to get to school, IM SICK OF IT

$100 bucks a month if your in your parents policy.... And i told them about my Drivers course and they didnt give a **** about it. I was given few INsurance brokers numbers form my moms insurance company and they said 702 a month, so i called up my friend and he called just to see for his 2000 Kia *something* and it ended up begin $817 a month, so he flipped out too...

I did not know you where in Canada. The price of insurance might be more then $100USD out there. Cars can be expensive maintenance and gas plus insurance. We pay $3.05USD now for unleaded here in Loveland, Colorado. I don't know what it is in Canada? I have a 1991 Eagle Talon and I have probably put $6,000USD in it over the past 3 years. I wonder if you could go through Esurance.com in Canada? How much does your mom pay? It should not be over double that amount.

Gas prices here in Canada are around $1.05 per litre unleaded, I maintain my moms car myself since i know my Auto Teacher and he lets me use his tools and equipment. I probably saved over $600 last year with maintenance on my moms 1995 Ford Escort, so getting my own car wont cost me much as too bringing it to a mechanic, unless something serious goes wrong

But i still cant believe its 702 a month, im not one of those typical student drivers that like to **** around with our parents cars. I respect our car as i would of my own.
Im actually driving my moms car without insurance at this moment as im trying to make and save a little $ for college since we're having financial problems, so im gonna gave to think over this insurance buisness
