cant figure out the problem after upgrading to dual 4k monitors

system in my signature

I had it hooked up to main display DVI port and second display DP>dvi adapter
worked fine with 2 1080p monitors

got a good deal on 2 LG 4k monitors and tried to hook them up but its having constant issues


if I pug both of them in nothing works

if I just plug in the display port for main display it works
if I plug in second display with hdmi to DP cable both monitors go blank
but strangely when I push youtube and sound came on. the display turned off until I restart it.

when I look at performance monitor GPU is not loaded at all
nothing is really loaded to above 25%

also how can I tell which of the 2 hdmi ports should I use on the video card?

it has DVI, DP, and 2 hdmi ports

You'll need to use the DP and HDMI ports for 4k monitors, DVI won't support high enough res

Which model LG 4k monitors do you have?

27UD68 both monitors

im not using DVI

im using DP on main monitor and trying to power up the second monitor but if I plug in the second one the main monitor has no signal and the second monitor is only working at 30hz through hdmi

the main display is working at full rez at 60hz no issues
I figured out the sound btw.

but cant figure out why its shutting down when second display is plugged in

I just updated the nvidia driver too, same result

the display supports HDMI 2.0 and DP 1.2
graphics card supports HDMI 2.0b and DP 1.4
I don't know if that has something to do with it

both displays are somehow working
I restarted the PC and plugged it in while the display2 was turned off
then logged in and turn it on
now both are on but the display 2 is only at 30hz through hdmi

Bolded technically shouldn't work as it requires an active adapter. Those cables you see on Amazon are 99% all unidirectional. (That is of course, your cable you're referring to has a USB power input because it's an active adapter).

Your card and monitors have the ports necessary to not use any adapter cables. Just use a Displayport cable to one and an HDMI to the other.

that's what I did eventually

but my second display is still at 30hz instead of 60 and I cant find a way to change it

I think I finally figured it out

lol reset monitors.and the 60hz option showed up finally

hopefully it works now without shutting down
