Canon Zr930 Mini-DV Camcorder

Using Firewire Connection
I have a Canon ZR930 Mini-DV CamCorder. I have the proper firewire cable and an open firewire port on my laptop. I cannot get the PC to recognize that the camera is even connected!
I have verified within the BIOS that the firewire port is enabled. (That was my first guess) yet when I attempt to install the Canon software or if I try to use the pre-installed Window$ Moviemaker, neither programs can even see the camera.
I've tried every setting on the camera that I know of (there aren't many options.) I've put the camera in "Play" mode, I've tried "Camera" mode, I've even tried with the camera in the "Off" position.
Any help that someone could offer would be GREATLY appreciated!
I have above average technical knowledge pertaining to computers so this issue is really annoying the heck out of me!
