Hi, I currently only have 256mb of ram in my computer and are planning to buy another stick of 512mb. But currently my 256 is a PC2700 (DDR333), and i want to get a 512 PC3200 (DDR400). Because it's hard to find 512 of PC2700. Would it be possible for me to put the PC3200 with the PC2700? My motherboard support up to DDR400. Would the PC3200 still be as affective?

Cheers.

i think you would lose efficiency on the better memory. it would be draged down to the slower ones level.
don't qoute me on that though.

I am looking for PC2700 DDR 333 and its about £59 for 512, I know cus i asked at my local computer shop and he said that he would be so surprised it PC3200 Didnt work so ill try it.

you will be better off if you can spend a little more ang get all ddr400, as the ddr300 will slow the other down.

The ddr400/pc3200 will work as all memeory is backward compatable. The problem is that IT WILL ONLY WORK IN THE SPEED AS DETERMINED BY THE SLOWEST RAM THAT IS INSTALLED....this means that you can install pc3200 (if your system uses it) with any combination of other DDR ram; pc1600, pc2100, pc2700. But it will only run at the speed it is installed with. Pc3200 installed with pc1600 runs at pc1600 speed same goes if you installed pc 2700 with pc1600 it will only run at the pc1600 speed. and so on. In conclusion when you install that 512 pc3200 with your existing 256 pc2700 your system would be running at 768 pc2700 ratings. You would be better off to remove the 256 pc2700 and only use the 512 pc3200.

Me too. The RAM would definietly be slowed down like lurkswithin says :)
