Hi all,
I am running vista 32 bit just re-installed and updated. I have had trouble getting windows to open data discs DVDs.
I managed to get Nero to burn a data DVD but as usual explorer freezes and won't open the disc. conversely it opened a CD instantly.
the machine is ATAPI DVD W DH16W1P ATA DEVICE. as you might expect, windows says driver O.K. I don't know the manufacturer but it's probably lite-on.I don't know why it won't read discs and wonder if anyone has similar probs. ?

It's not uncommon for this to happen with dying drives. It'll do CD's just fine, but anything DVD related and it starts puking binary all over the place. Pick up a new drive, they're like $20 these days.

I'm sure you're right, and I'll take your advice. I have checked it out and CD's are fine and DVD's bad news. Thanks for replying.
