Black screen after installing core 2 duo

That might be it.
i have had (and reed about) incompatibility with too fast RAM modules. (used a pc2-6400 kit on a motherboard that at best supported pc2-5300. it didn't post)
When looking at old motherboard specs you should not take the ram module support lightly.
maybe this is also the case with CPU's on older platforms.

glad we have better compatibility in modern hardware.

I tried installing that bios update, only to find I already have it.... I need a new mobo don't I :/
 
It seams that way. Hope you can get your money back for that CPU.
Else you can properly find a cheap supporting board on ebay.
