Yes FLAC does retain all of the fidelity, since its a losless codec.

WAV and AIFF are mainly used by recording studios...since the file sizes are huge and no ideal for distribution.
 
Surely, technically FLAC has to sound worse, audio aside, the file size is way smaller - so physically has to be less data?

Someone explain why it doesn't sound worse, please :p

Hows Ogg in terms of quality ? i've never actually tried it..
 
320kbps mostly, and 192 when the first is not "available" :D I usually compress my music to 192kbps for my MP4 player and to 96kbps for my mobile phone...
