Big Mutha error message at startup!

I get this nice little error message trying to fix my older brothers Dell computer. Missing or currupt file \WINDOWS\system32\config\SYSTEM

you know the good ol' black screen with the white letters, anything i could do about this at all or am i going to have to reformat and he will lose like 8k songs.

You probably have a corrupted registry. This should help:
