mainly because the l2 cache is the main fast memory stuff so its good to have a higher amount of it..also core 2 duo's are built so good that they dont have great clocks but they are still very fast!

just stick with intel..they know what theyre doing man!

The architecture of the Core 2 Duo itself is superior to that of AMD's CPUs. They have better performance per clock ratio compared to the Core 2 Duo.

The main reason the Core 2 Duo is faster is because of the way it is designed. The way it's designed is to be fast, while not having to have some much cache or frequency, reason behind this is marketing. If you lower the cache size and frequency, then they can target higher prices with better products, while at the same time their lower end products will outperform anything else out there.

To be rather vague about it: It's the architecture of the CPU.

as they said its all in the core the conroe uses less transistors(use to make logic gates which millions of these for a CPU) less places to travel less time simple if you think about as having a straighter line

Conroe _____________
Windsor _>----->__________>-----><____

see the windors line is all screwed up lol

Actually that's backwards. Transistors aren't a direct reflection on CPU speed. The more the merrier but it isn't always needed. infact the new high-K metal transistors that are going to be incorporated into the Penryn Core 2 Duo will have something like 20% more transistors and 50% less power consumption while offering substantially more cache.
