If you don't feel like building your own computer and would rather get a prebuilt, what are the best major computer brands? The worst?

There is no good or bad in pre-builts as the products inside are sourced from many companies. If you really want to sort them like that it's simply a case of who charges the most for said product. Customer service is another story, to which I'd rate Dell as the worst.

If you were good at putting lego's together as a young kid, then building your own pc might be a better option for you. Today it may or may not be cheaper, but you'll know what you have from your own choices and you'll get a much better manufacture's warranty on parts without being charged extra like the off the shelf pc manufacture's charge you. People here can help you with choosing your parts for your current needs. If in the future should your needs change and you want to upgrade, you can do that with a custom build that you did. Off the shelf pc manufacture's discourage that option

You can do that with over 90% of the gaming PC pre-builds out there. People constantly confuse pre-build gaming manufacturers with OEMs. HP and Dell are companies that discourage this, but as of late they have started creating your standard gaming computers that use off the shelf parts. Just look at HPs Omen lineup.

Pre builds will be cheaper sometimes but that is because they have cheaper motherboards, RAM, PSUs, and sometimes GPUs because they make their own PCBs
Pre-built gaming computers are cheaper when coming from companies like Cyberpower and IBuyPower because they get bulk pricing. The only time they will be more expensive is when they markup the overall cost or force extra shit you don't need.

I wouldn't recommend the concrete brand, but this site'll definitely help you with choice of the computer brands: https://cooltechzone.com/. What's more, you can find there the information about hacker attacks, new types of software, new viruses. For fans of cryptocurrent theme there are also a lot of interesting things here to find!
Good luck.
