I would have thought we would want newbies asking on the open forun as it is a computer help forum, and others could learn from the answers as well.

I agree. Now, if this were posted into the open as newbie likely do (in the wrong section, mind you) And they were to receive an answer - Wouldn't that answer be trusted a bit more? The forums have done plenty fine without badges so far but it certainly couldn't hurt to try out. I think the only issue I can forsee is assignment of badges. If self-assigned then anyone can claim they know anything. :|

Grant, what you're describing is essentially the CF Privileged title, but with a restriction to a title that states an area of expertise - just as J stated. If the majority feels like it is important to have these elitist titles, then we can simply have David hand out a CF Priv. and assign each person their area of expertise.
