Odd - I wonder if it's Realtek audio manager software (or whatever the equivalent you have is, if not Realtek) interfering with things.

Might be. The thing that's weird is it started out of the blue, what's your comment on the fact the CPU Usage soars when playing music?
This part seems to have trickled down, after doing some lengthy cleaning though, so I'm sure re-organizing stuff helped.

Could be that it's for some reason having issues decoding the audio, or an issue with the software/drivers doing the decoding.
