just a quick query, my old comp has a asus p4p800s motherboard (P4). Just curious to know if i can change the CPU to something more powerful and will it affect any other hardware??

The only compatible processors with that board I can find are P4s and Celerons, so there is not much upgrade room.

I did find that it can support up to 3.6 GHz though, so if you can find a Socket 478 P4 with 800 MHz FSB with anything up to 3.6 GHz, you should be good to go. I don't see the need for upgrading that though unless you have something that is a lot less.

Hard to say without knowing which cpu you have now.

iirc a 3.6GHz was the fastest Skt 478 cpu

Edit: @ FSB, snap

thanks mate, well at the moment it has 2.8 gHz so if thats the case i might as well go to the max...
