Since the previous HDD benchmark thread only measured sequential read speed I though it would be nice to have a bechmark that gives a more complete picuture of a drives performance.

As it's name implies the AS SSD benchmark was designed for measuring the performance of solid state drives but there is no reason we can't use it for conventional hard drives as well. The benchmark is composed of four components, sequential read/write, 4K random read/write, 4K 64 thread random read/write, and access time so it should give us a pretty good indication of a drives performance. The benchmark also gives you an overall score so it should make ranking people pretty easy.

The AS SSD Benchmark can be downloaded here

Minimum System Requirements
Windows XP/Vista/7
.NET Framework 3.0
3gb of free space on the drive being tested

Note for conventional hard drive users
This benchmark is designed to challenge the fastest SSDs available so the tests may take a very long time to run.

Formatting Results
The basic formatting will be very similar to the other benchmark threads. All drives will be ranked in a single list however we will use color coding to differentiate between different types of drives. Below are some examples of how to format your results. Also please post a screen shot of your score.

SSD
[Score] | Username | OCZ Vertex 60GB

7200rpm SATA Hard Drive
[Score] | Username | Seagate 7200.12 500GB

10k rpm SATA Hard Drive
[Score] | Username | WD Velociraptor 300GB

SCSI/SAS Hard Drive
[Score] | Username | Seagate Cheetah 150GB

RAID
Use the color coding corresponding to the type of drive in the array

Re: TF Official AS SSD/HDD Benchmark Thread

good idea. i so gotta get scsi drives in a rig to be like the only one to have a score there lol.

Re: TF Official AS SSD/HDD Benchmark Thread

^^ Lol I wondered if we would end up needing that category or not.

Here is my run.

Re: TF Official AS SSD/HDD Benchmark Thread

^nice. Yeah, i have the drives (im pretty sure one of them does not work anymore though), just gotta put um in a rig, although i really dont feel like doing all that lol, if this really takes off, then maybe.

158 | Slaymate | OCZ Agility 120GB

Just watching the benchmark run makes me think I don't have something set properly. And seeing Puddle's run I don't see how I scored a 158.

The 1.4 firmware could be responsible for your lower speeds. I would expect your drive to be equal to or better than mine across the board assuming everything else is equal. Is TRIM enabled on your drive?

Edit: After a bit of reading the 1.5 firmware does seem to offer a substantial boost in sequential write speeds.

It took about an hour to run this benchie on my Raid0 drive compared to maybe 10 minutes on the SSD.

Yes, TRIM is enabled. I'll check into the 1.5 firmware :D

Re: TF Official AS SSD/HDD Benchmark Thread

^^Nice, that's quite an improvement. If OCZ can keep getting getting performance increases like that from new firmwares these drives could end up beating the Intels at some point in the future.

I haven't ran the SSD Tweaker but I will now.

Re: TF Official AS SSD/HDD Benchmark Thread

I'd love to see some Caviar Blacks or Samsung Spinpoint F3's in this thread. >:3
Heck some Seagate 7200.12's would be interesting or some newer Hitachi drives too.
