The amount of RAM was decreased, but the speed was increased.

You sacrifice quantity (since you'll never use 16GB) for an increase in quality.

You can also add more in the future if you do eventually want to get that 16GB Ram

Also buying the faster RAM first will mean if you wish to upgrade RAM, you can add instead of replacing leaving redundant RAM and a waste of money.

haha nonsensical? ya i had to re read it, but i know what you mean. add another card instead of having to replace it
