Learning to fight..... it depends what kind of fighting. Army combatives (it is a mix of different styles of fighting im not sure what they are though)yes that will help you. Anything else would just be for personal gain and not help you in the military. (ie promotions etc etc)

****... I just had to open my mouth.

Getting back onto the subject of fighting and army combatives. They picked 5 people out of the battery to be modern army combatives certified. I was one of them. 5 days of tussling and beating ***. And apparently to be certified I need to get my *** beat down by a lvl 2 or lvl 3 instructor. awesome.

active duty marine right here, not too bad in the marines.

this post isnt to knock on the army or anything, its to let him know what the corps consists of

i reach my 1 year mark may, right now im a e-3 (lance corporal), that is the last rank at which u are given the promotion, in order for my to become an e-4 corporal, id become an NCO (non commisioned officer) i have to earn it by mainly 3 areas, PFT(physical fitness test) rifle score and proficiency score (how my conduct is) those add up into waht is called a composite score, along with a few other things (self education, TIG,TIS(time in grade/service) and special asignments bonus) well anyways, what im saying is, the difference with the marine corps is that, u learn alot of leadership skills. me being as e-3 am already in charge of just as many people as a e-5 somtimes e-6 in the army would be in charge of. with the marines, leadership isnt tought, its thrust upon you when you least expect it, thats what lets you know what your made of. physically id say the marines is more demanding than any other branch, mentally not sure, all i know is ive got to memorize alot of things. since im 0311 (infantry) on my B billet job which is 8152 (security forces F.A.S.T. (fleet anti-terrorism security team)) it adds towards my promotion. where i learn about CQB (close quarters battle) and AUC (advance urban combat) tactics. its been said that the marine corps infatry is a league of its own being americas most elite land fighting force known, our regular infantry is easly comparable to the armys SF. with that being said im sure you get the idea of going infatry in the marines is prolly tough, because it is. so if you want a challenge its the way to go, if you want job skills and benefits, join the army. also if you join the marines, GET USED TO DISAPPOINTMENT, GET USED TO HAVING THE FIRST YEAR SUCK (i signed for 5 as my job requires alot of traning, ive undergone 10 months of it)

if you have any questions about certain aspects of it, just ask. like what a normal workday in the fleet (fleet- a marine done with training) consists of.

AA! Man, haven't seen you in forever. Good to know you haven't sprouted holes.

When they say that marines is more physically demanding, i laugh. And I hate to break it to you archoangel, but an E-3 in the marines is not capable of leading the same amount of personnel as an SSG in the army.

The army promotes up to E-4 by time in grade/time in service but only as specialist, to be an E-4 CPL (nco) you would have to be pending an E-5 promotion, or be a specialist performing nco duties.

Thats what i cant stand, the majority of marines i come into contact with have that attitude that they think theyre better than everyone else. You guys have to do 3 miles in 27 mins right?

Well age group 17-21 in the army has to do 2miles in 15:36, which is harder. At basic i ran mine in 14:20, i was in really good shape (went from 230 down to 187). I do have two buddies who are marines though, and theyre cool as ****.

And dont give me that bs that regular marines infantry is comparable to Army SF, have you gone thru the training? Just the basic Army Infantry school is pretty tough, its no free ride. Even though im not infantry, i went there.

As an E-3, ive also been put to do nco duties, my rank wasnt simply haded to me.

I do agree that Army and marines would be the most physically demanding, however.

marine infantry is not comparable to army SF.

Army SF is 3 phases.

Assessment and Selection (24 days of **** to weed out the best)
Phase I (weapons training, advanced land navigation, unconventional warfare tactics, urban situational awareness)
Phase II (MOS training)

2 years total of training. And you WILL be PROFICIENT in a NEEDED foreign language.
