AMD Phenom II X4 955 AM3 VS Intel Core i3 540

I'm looking at buying a new desktop pc and I'm getting conflicting information as to whether to go for an AMD processor or a i3 or i5. I'm hearing stories about the intel sandy bridge motherboards which is putting me off buying one of them. I want to use the pc for home, business but its also got to be able to tackle some gaming. Any views would be very much appreciated

i3's are shite mate, Phenom hands down.

the problem with sandy bridge is fixed, so intel says, doesnt stop the i3s being crap. i5's are way better. It would be a much fairer comparison between Phenom and i5.
