I know that Am3 CPU's are backwards compatible but the 955 BE is not listed on the supported CPU's list on my Motherboard. Just wondering if anyone knows if I could just flash my BIOS and use the new 955 BE with my board in my sig and the ram that I have or if I would have to purchase an AM3 board as well. The thing is Im not sure if any board makers have updated their CPU support lists since even the AM3 boards don't say they support it.

I really don't have a problem buying a new board and actually plan on it but I found a 955 BE used for 185 and want to be able to test it before buying. As long as I can get it to boot in my board I will be ordering an AM3 board but like I said I just want to test it first. :D:D

Well im gonna give it a shot 185 is just too good of a deal to pass it up and Ive really been wanting to get that CPU...:D:D

Going to try it out tomorrow and hopefully all goes well...:D:D

Yeah I'm clueless about the motherboard support list, but I do know a 955 for 180$ is avoid deal. Is it new or used? I'm confused as to how you get to try it out..

At this current time, Biostar have not released a BIOS update enabling support for the 955. It should happen in the near future though...

180 is a great deal BTW, you must be tempted to keep it and sell your 920 for almost the same price.

Worship do you think that It would still run but just show up as AMD processor model unknown or do you think it wouldnt run at all? When I first bought the board I had the old BIOS straight out of the box so my 920 was showing up as Processor model unknown but all the specs were correct and it was stable but i did some digging and found out the Bios was from 2008 and flashed it to the newest and then the 920 showed up instead of saying processor model unknown. I was thinking that it might be alright since it supports the 720 x3 which is an AM3 socket.

Oh and in response to your question yeah if the 955 BE is all good than the 920 will be up on for sale/trade..:D:D I might also end up putting the Mobo and Ram up there as well but im not sure

Usually the system won't post when you try to install an unsupported CPU, but if it worked with your 920, then it should work with the 955 :) (Well, there's at least no harm in trying)

yeah i guess I will give it a shot but it might be kinda pointless because if i am doing it for testing purposes and it doesn't post then I really cant tell if it is just not supported or if the CPU has a problem...:D

Oh well I am gonna get it anyways and if it doesn't work with my board I will end up getting an AM3 anyways. The egg has an Asus M4790T Deluxe 790FX Open box for like 139. I will prolly give that a whirl if i cant get my board to post. Then my 790GX will definitely be up for sale too...:D:D

Just out of curiosity, where did you find this used 955?

EDIT: Sucks that I told you to buy the Biostar:

AMD just sent a note to me this afternoon letting me know the "configurator" for AMD recommended motherboards has been updated to include the newly-released CPUs. If you've never checked out the configurator you can plug in your CPU and it will give you some AMD Recommended Motherboards: http://products.amd.com/en-us/RecommendedMBFilter.aspx

Then results for Phenom II X4 955 matches these motherboards:
