AMD 64 or AMD XP

In Runtime
I am in the process of building my first computer. I do not know a whole lot about it but I have been trying to read up as best I can. Which of the 2 are better and what exactly is their difference. I am guess that the AMD 64 is better but would like some expert opinions. Or should I forget about AMD and go with say a P4 2.8 or higher. Thank you very much for your help.

Since nothing uses 64 bits at the moment, AMD's 64 bit cpu is useless to me(until 64 bit becomes imparitive)

The only useful thing than you can take advantage of right now with their new cpu's is it's BUS speeds, which at the moment are the highest I've ever seen.

It's really up to you, but personally I would go with an XP 3000+.

Actually, if you read up a bit, you'll see the Athlon 64 is quite the performer. Even with a lack of 64bit apps, it can really top off some of the charts. If you have the extra cash, it might be one to look into...
