Which would be better for gaming and/or for all around, amd 64 3200 2.2ghz pro or dual pent 4. 2.2ghz pro with 512mb rambus ram

You would need to disable HT on the P4's. Or you wouldn't be able to run windows Home or Pro. (Max is 2 CPU).
Other than that, the dual P4 would run about the same as a single P4 3.4 or roughly at that. Hence I would go for the Athlon as it is better for gaming anyway. You also have the choice of 64bit, HTbus and will be cheaper and run cooler. If you ever want to upgrade to dual core CPU's then you can do that too on the SKT939 platform once it is released without needing to get a new motherboard.

1st off the 3.4GHz CPU's will have an 800MHz FSB, the 2.2GHz - depending on the chipset used, may only have a sharing of a 533MHz memory. Because this is a dual CPU setup based on older 533MHz FSB P4s. It also won't be as efficient as a single CPU.
The 3.4GHz P4 6xx series has twice cache than the two 2.2GHz CPU's put together. It will run faster than the dual 2.2GHz setup or equal. The dual setup has no major advantage in this case.
A 3200+ athlon 64 will do gaming better than a 3.4GHz P4. It also has an equivilent of a 800MHz FSB with the memory, as its dual channel - this time the memory controllers built into the CPU greatly increasing the efficiency of it.
Save yourself a shit load of money, and go the AMD route. Especially if it's for gamming. Perhaps instead of going for dual 2.2GHz, go for the top of the range P4 6XX Extreme Edition, or the Athlon FX 55/57. This way you have all the latest technology and you can upgrade far easier. With all the differences between the older P4 and the newer ones, I think it's mad going for a dual P4 2.2GHz setup. You'll also get all the intruction support newly added to the newer CPU's.
