Probably won't know until benchmarks are produced (too early). ATI claims that its Crossfire will be compatible with all games and that all games should get performance increase.
Compared with two 6800 Ultra in SLI however, ATI's Crossfire should end up about 10% faster in 3Dmark05 benchmark, about 30% in Splinter cell CT and more than 60% in Need For Speed Underground 2.
When compared with single X850 XT PE card, Crossfire cards performs 10% faster in 3Dmark03, more than 60% faster in old Return to Castle Wolfenstein and almost 100% faster in Splinter cell game. I hardly call those test "challenging" judging by the games they used. I see no reason how the 7800GTX SLi can't keep up with the Crossfire if not, exceed it. It will be interesting to see...
