Got myself a present for the past holiday season!

Coming from a 6700K and GTX 1080 which still does its thing, but I was itching to build something and wanting to keep current.

An NZXT H5 Flow mid tower will house a 9800X3D, 7900 XTX, X870E MB, 32GB DDR5-8000, 990 PRO 1TB, and a 1000W PSU!

Would love to see a mid point picture or all of it out of boxs but not yet fully put together!!

Such a huge jump in hardware it's crazy. You know what's even crazier? The only thing you'll really feel day to day is the SSD change.
I upgraded a customer from a 2600k and a 680 to a 13900k and 3090 but his SSD was late (thanks UPS). We reused his old SATA SSD just so he could have a machine to use while he waited. He texted me that night and was like is it weird I can't tell a difference? I'm like nah, not really. It'll be quicker when the new SSD gets in but for desktop/web stuff a 2600k is still very viable. Launch a game and it's noticeable or do real work but Facebook/Youtube? Nah.

You have to got to post up some pics of it, mate.

I don't have a mid-point picture but a 90% built that I hope will do

The 6700K had a 980 PRO and overall, no big changes, which speaks a lot for the old stuff! It'll be used for mid gaming.

The difference was finally a smooth 4K 60 FPS max. The GTX 1080 was trying its best, while 7900 XTX was walking in the park.

It just shows we haven't come a long way in CPU. Most advancement has been in clock speed rather than raw IPC. Referencing my post from the longest thread, I'm pretty sure if the 10900x I went back to for shits and giggles could clock to 5.5GHz I wouldn't see a single difference in gaming or day to day work. Which is saying something, because there's a cache penalty for it being Mesh vs Ringbus. GPUs on the other hand have been a steady 30% give or take gen to gen at the highest level. Covid made it stagnate on the lower end due to greed. The unfortunate thing is AMD and Intel won't be competing at the high end so we'll see further stagnation on the GPU level too.
