not a waste of money, sometimes goofball, lol

when I was working at Electronics Boutique...there was a guy who got a job there after me...he had a masters in psychology I think...again, lol

be honest about things...if someone gives you a chance, take it and elevate it...just don't trash it again. Prove yourself and earn trust...then take it from there. Letters of recommendations can often go a long way.

Ever thought about going self employed? I did an there has only been one thing to tempt me back to working for some one an if they get it right i will but honestly being your own boss is the most liberating thing ever.

lol yeah. I can't work with a gaming license or a casino with a record, maybe i'll try walmart. it's fine though, most of the places I've applied have either not called or for the most part have been very non-responsive about hiring, is it just the market here?

If you went to work for Wal-Mart you would most likely get turned down. Reason being. You either have to handle the cash from customers or have to handle the product.

With having theft be the reason, they would not look highly for employment for you. Since they are nothing but product based. But never know. Wal-Mart is always hurting for people.

The market every where is this way. I have tried to find a job the past few weeks after being off for just over a year to raise my daughter and even i have yet to find anything.

Depends on the offense and the job. Most jobs like stated above will look past minor crimes unless it has to do with theft. If you are trying to get low-end / low-skill positions you shouldn't have too much of trouble because they (unless you are handling money or working for a casino) usually don't do much of a background check. Problem is, if you want any job higher than entry-level they WILL check your background and this is where you'll have problems.

All i can say is do not lie about it. If their application asks, answer truethfully. I realize lying MAY get you the job if they don't do a background check, but if at some point (even 10 years down the road) you are still working for that company and you get a large promotion, and they do a background check and see this offense, they WILL fire you. Lieing on your application in most instances (even after hire) will result in immediate termination and possible law suites (suites from them trying to recoupe money for training you, etc etc).

Alright I understand, but, I don't know. My friend makes pretty awesome money with a job here and there, but, I don't think he's pushing himself to his full potential given the opportunity.

This is to Answer lex and Mak213.

Mak213: Yeah, I wanted to get started in self employment. Currently my business venture was started about three months ago. I work from home but, really this is more about getting the money to support my surgery and bang in some small time income to knock out some of my bills that have accumulated. I have maybe a couple thousand in bills i need to pay plus surgery. Before you ask, the business is a on-site television repair service, my technician and I receive and perform calls in the las vegas area, so a good portion of my time is spent at the computer writing the business plan and receiving phone calls. I even has a business line in my room for any calls lol.

Lex. Low-end work / low-skill is what i'm after. I've applied at places such as fast food, walgreens, fresh and easy. fresh and easy truthfully? is like a bad nightmare, I called and they basically said, "well call you if we're interested." Yeah, lying isn't going to get me any further than I am now. It's not really a big deal when someone says, "have you stolen before", well, yeah but I'm the only one stupid enough to get caught. I don't know. one of the worst decisions in my life and some people don't really realize it until they see the "aftermath" of their decision.

Yup, it is true. You don't think twice until it F's up your life. Then you don't realize (your subject is well stated) the aftermath of being in trouble with the law.

Sorry for your troubles, and hopefully you will hit a job that the employers are willing to 'take a shot' at you, and they realize you are a good employee. Depends on the job area, but a lot of places just want to know if you've been convicted of a felony, so if this is truely a conviction as a mistermeanor, then i don't think that will come up much in interviews / applications. I mean people get mistermeanors (sp*) all the time from parking tickets to getting reduced scentences for DWI's. Hopefully it will work out for you.

I'd suggest working more on that business plan and trying to make that successfull:)

Thanks man, lol, you have no idea the support i get from you guys has helped. i've been really hard on myself to get a job just to support around the house. currently the business plan is one of two pages with atleast seven or more to go. I'm at the executive summary and looking to shape out the rest. then it will be hard work hard work and more hard work. I like it though, there are some itmes that you feel completely lazy because no ones called lol.

Yeah, i think the charge was pleaded down to a gross misdermeanor(only in vegas) and i'm spending time on probation right now. i get off of it in a few months cause i've paid my restitution off. go me :D

job market is in the pits. been looking for a job for the past 3 weeks now, can't find anything. and i'd consider myself pretty hireable lol. but yeah, you might check into construction, they make darn good money if you can find someone hiring, and as a plus, theft is generally something that construction companies/firms are not to concerned about
