Here is the specification's of a computer I am thinking of buying, I know nothing about any of what av wrote below so can someone please tell me if it is any good and how much you would pay for it:

HP Pavilion

AMD Sempron 3500+ (2ghz)

446 mb RAM (512mb)

181 Gb HDD
DVD - R/W Drive

Hi-Def Audio

Nvidia GE-Force 6100 n force 420

Vista Home Basic

Card Reader
Lite View TFT
USB 2.0 Support

That's how it is written on the bit of paper I have so sorry if some bits don't make sense!

Well, what'your budget, and we can build one for you? That one there is fairly old, I would go for something a little better if you can...

I was going to pay £160 for that one above but I would probably pay up to £500 for a computer, but it will be a while before I have the cash so when I get the cash I will come back on here and contact yerself about building a computer!

Would £500 get me a decent computer?

DONT BUY THAT COMPUTER FOR £160

quiet simply that is way too expensive for the specification

What's the computer going to be used for? If it's a bit of everything, I'd go for this:
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/130484 - CPU - Good enough for almost everything, if I hadn't been so stupid at the time, I would have got this or the E6600 over the Q6600.
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/129125 - MoBo.
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/127584 - Case.
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/124735 - HDD, depends what you're going to store on it really but this should be good enough for most things plus it's a good brand.
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/105994 - CPU cooler, very underrated, great performance for the money and quite good for overclocking.
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/132560 - Disk drive. Can't really go wrong here.
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/116755 - Memory. Always get a good brand here.
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/132563 - PSU. NEVER get a piece of shit to supply the power 'cause it will probably end up blowing your PC up.
What video card you get really depends on what you want to do with the PC, but right now the best card for the money that will support DirectX10 games is the nVidia GeForce 8800GT 512MB which you can pick up for about £160.
BTW all that I've linked to which you could build a pretty good PC out of adds up to about £390 minus the graphics card.
If you don't know anything about building your own computer, it's quite simple really, here's a guide:

I did it and I'm a complete noob.

i dont get that the Q6600 beats the E6600 in most benchmarks, also the extra FSB on the E6750 doesnt really help either i think its the best choise to go for the Q6600

Buy the computer ive got (in my sig). Very cheap but as the processor is so overclockable its still a fantastic computer.

Except for the graphics card...

99tollap's rig is pretty good.get a 8800 GT or if u dont want to pay that much(and not that much for gaming) a 8600GT. the intel dual core processor has a pretty good clock speed but the bus speed is a bi low. also get a 550 W PSU
