advice on how to upgrade drivers without using programs

Can someone advise me on how to upgrade drivers on my computer system? Without using these driver checking sites? Used Driver Agent and had a major malware problem straight after!

Never use those. Just go to the manufacturer's website and download the driver.

The only ones you really need to update consistently are the graphics drivers though.

there was once one program called Driver Genius or something and it was completely clean and safe, plus it works fine but sometimes cant downlaod minor drivers that usually dont even affect your comp anyways

Cheers guys. In that case can you tell me which drivers I really need to upgrade? I thought bios would be an important one. And how do I find versions and types etc?
