I upgraded a Gateway 4200 with a new hard drive and installed XP professional on the new drive. I made the new drive the master and the old drive the slave.
Before: Win NT, 13G HD partioned into C: = 2G, D: = 11 G, 2 CD drives, E: & F:
Now: Win XP professional on G: drive, other drives as before.
The system recognizes G: as the OS drive. When I install drivers it automatically puts them on the G: drive. The system is working OK.
I expected that The new drive would have been designated as C:. What happened?
I am going to repartion the C:/D: drives into one drive. Will G: revert to C: then?
Can I manually designate G: as C:?
