About DNS Config

hi..
When i config DNS I meet a trouble,that is:
I have a Intranet and a Internet,they connet from router,I have a Server, OS of it is windows 2000 server,and it is in Intranet,IP address is 10.0.99.2 Gate is 10.0.99.1, it can visit internet from a router.Now I config this sever to DNS,and set Forwards to 202.101.172.37 ,it is a valid DNS,i make this server's DNS to itself(10.0.99.2) ,I can ping www.abc.com(in this DNS), But it can not work narmal,I mean it can not visit internet,such as when i ping www.google.com,it reply unkonw host,Why is it ?

hi..
my server(I call it A) old config is:
IP:10.0.99.2
Submask:255.255.255.0
Gateway:202.101.172.37
DNS:202.101.172.37

I can visit internet normal.

Now I do it as fellow:
1.I install DNS component on my pc server(A).
2.I config a domin such as :www.abc.com it IP is 10.0.99.2
3.I Config Dns forwards is enable and add 202.101.172.37 for it.delpy time is 5
4.I set PC Server(A) DNS is:10.0.99.2
5. other is no change

there are another pc B,I config is :
IP:10.0.99.5
sub:255.255.255.0
gate:10.0.99.1
DNS:10.0.99.2

that in pc B ,I exclude pinging www.abc.com,this is successful,but when I ping www.google.com or other website name,it reply:unkonw host name,why is it?

I dstup your DNS to be the same as your ISPs. then have your server has secondary dns. that might work!

but 202.101.172.37　is the ISPs,10.0.99.2 is set by myself,I only want do install a alone dns server in my intranet LAN

well you need an external DNS connection that will propagate other domains to your DNS which means you need a secondary DNS to do so and some way for other dns servers to exchange information wityh your dns.

I really dont know ive never done it Ive used dns appliances and the like never hand done it I'm sure you can find it off microsoft.com or Ill find it if you want!
