about burning mpegs?

i have a mpeg clip in my movies folder what i would like to put onto dvd.
however if i do it using my nero burning suit it only has the first 10 seconds of sound on it, the video film is there in its entirety. i have been using the dvd rw discs that i have. is there any good free dvd burning programes i could try, or am i making mistakes? if i play the mpeg on my media player it plays fine all of the way.
by the way, its a very old clip from the movie DELIVERANCE.

do you have a license for Nero Vision Express? If not, getting one should unlock the movie editing tools necessary for burning mpegs to dvd.
