Alright I've about finished my rig, all I need now is 4 gigs of registered ram, and another processor, and one hard drive.

I've bought so far
s2895 Tyan Mother board
250gig x2 Maxtor 3.0 gig Sata II Hard drives
246 SledgeHammer
Asus CD Drive
Floppy
two 120 mm 110 cfm fans
Everything is connected, and I'm going to buy probably 2 gigs of ram, and one more additional hard drive.

But here is my question.

When setting up a 0+1 Raid system, do I need 3 hard drives? For example this is the other hard drive I am going to buy, it'll be a 500 gig maxtor 16 meg ata133 hard drive. Since I have two 250 gig hard drives, which makes 500 gigs, do I need the hard drive that holds the back up data to be the same size as the other two hard drives?

Please post only if you've built this configuration or have knowledge of it. Please don't post if you don't know...

Sorry to be up front, but thanks in advance.

No, no he wants raid 1+0 there for he needs 3 hard drives. You need 2 for raid 0 and then 1 more for raid 1. I dont think you need a 500 gb HDD, you need another 250gb HDD. Becuase Raid 0 strips all the info in half so yor max storage is only 250, so to back it all up you only need another 250gb HDD. Hope that helps
