hi
I share my computer with some other people, and one person has installed a program which lets him watch what the users of the computer are doing on the internet and so on. this program launches itself whenever the computer boots. However, I want to stop, not permanently, this program from running so that I could do some things on the computer which are private and personal. Could anyone help?
By the way, I tried going on to msconfig and unchecking the relevent programs off it and rebooting. It did not work.
Thanks

If you can figure out which process it is in task manager you should be able to shut it down real time. Of course, some of those monitoring programs don't show up. I couldn't hurt to try.

I would consider this hacking and theft of personal information such as banking and credit card information. If you own this machine then tell that person you plan to press charges. Have him remove the software in front of you and one or more of the other users. Then tell him he's lost use of the computer.
If this is a company machine and he's your boss, you'll have to find another machine to use.

if ur using vista u have to show all processes

if not, go to startup and disable the program, do your stuff and then enable the program

if you dont wanna do that, you should be able to see an icon for it, just turn it off

this is not something like watching porn at work or something right? cuz im pretty sure disabling companies monitors would be harder to disable

also make sure that you have admin privileges

Keyloggers don't have icons.
OP how do you know about this program?

I'm thinking he is on a family computer and his parent(s) have installed a keylogger or child watching program. He has probably gotten in trouble before by it.

But since we are here to help... :D

You could use a program called CCleaner and disable it from running under your account.

If it's a keylogger, the good ones are near invisible and there really isn't anything you can do to stop it. It wont show up in any running processes. I would suggest going to the library if you don't want your parents to see what you are doing.
