seeing how the 8800 GS is only $90-120, which is really cheap seeing how it performs.
But is it worth it getting the 8800 GS nowadays?
if not, then what will you guys suggest?
i would ask my friends, but only2 of them actually know something about computers, and 1 says go with ATI(3870-4850), and the other say go with Nvidia (8800)
my specs are on my sig.
thanks in advance.

I have heard some good things about the 8800 GS, but I can't speak from experience of using it. The ATI cards are putting up a lot of hype right now, so they seem like a good contender. The link below is one of the best 8800 GT's, I have one and it works great. And for only $6-$15 more than a GS, it's definately a steal.

Open Box GT: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127329R $126.63

In Box 8800 Gt:

$134.99 after MIR

4850:

$169.99 after MIR

3870:
$119.99

In my opinion you can't go wrong with any of the cards.

i was thinking about getting the MSI 8800 GT.
But i kind of have to sell my X1950 first, and its taking my friend awhile to return the 6600 he bought so he could buy mines instead.

any form of the 8800 is a good solid card. though if you have the $$$ i would go for a EVGA 8800 GTx or ultra

thats the thing, i am on a budget build right now.
i would want to get the 4850 since it beats the 8800GT i think.
and the 3870 cant beat it unless its crossfired, but thats about $300 and i dont have that type of money, so it seems like the 8800 is the best to go on a budget.

the 4850 does beat the 8800gt slightly but, you can get a 9600 gt for the same price.

the 3870 WILL NOT beat a 8800gt period, ive done my own tests on that. what MOBO are you putting on the board, some will only do crossfire and some will only do SLI

or you can hop down a version. im running a 8600gt with 1gb vram

there is a version out of this card out there that has HDMI output.

my mobo runs crossfire.
but seeing how the only way i could beat the 8800 or other cards would be to get the 4850 which is too much, or to crossfire the 38xx series to get close.
so i decided to get the 8800, the 9600 seems like its the same as the 8800GS, but is the 9600 better than the 8800GT for future references?

9600 has its strong points, 9600 gt vs a 8800gt,or 8800gs, 9600 will win but any of the higher cards like 8800gt ultra, ultra will win, if i had the money i would go for the 280gt, but thats like 600 bucks :)

but from the benchmarks of the games that i played, it seems like the 8800GT beats the 9600. I play games on 1680 x 1050, and they said that the 8800 is really good if you use them on higher resolutions.

The HD 4850 beats the crap out of the 8800GT and also is slightly head of the 9800GTX but leaves it in the dust when the resolution is increased and AA and AF are applied.

If you can stretch for a HD 4850, it's definitely worth it.
it seems like the 8800GT beats the 9600
The 8800GT > 9600GT. The 9600GT is a cut down version of G92, it has half the stream processors, half the texture units, and less ROPs.
