260 vs 295?

Well, it's been 8 months since I actually bought my computer and it's about that time to upgrade again. I know i'm going for a 790i Ultra with some DDR3 2Ghz, but i'm having a dilemma. I've argued it out with myself for some time and I can't decide whether it would be more sensible to get a 295 to stay future proof and SLI the 295 later or get dual 260 C216's now? and possibly SLI a third one in later. What's even worse is that I only run a 19inch wide @ 1152x864 for most of my games. I /do/ intend to play on larger monitors occasionally. Pricing isn't really an issue, I just don't want to spend more than I should really need to. So I figured I'd get some opinions from others.

A single GTX 295 will wipe the floor with a GTX 260 SLI setup.

The GTX 295 will be more cost effective in the long run and for a 19" LCD is more than enough fire power, IMO.

Exactly what I was thinking; I just needed some argument against my own case. And for whatever reason seem to like the idea of dual 260's over a single 295 even though I know it would be slower. I guess it's because i've never SLI'd. Actually, I guess the 295 really is SLI.

Unless you plan on upgrading your monitor, the Core 216 is already overkill. You could get a 9800 series card and still be fine. I say you should spend money on a decent new monitor and just get a Core 216. The 295 prices are only going to get lower.

he could use his 9600gt and it would probably be overkill for that resolution

If you really are stuck at 1152x864 res or even 1280x1024 go for the 9600gt

Any higher than that go for a core 216 man

Um stick with a EVGa GTX 260 Core 216! and use the extra money for a 22" or 24" lcd :) i have the gtx 260 and a 22"lcd i can max any game no problem!
