2 Windows OS prompts??

I did a fresh format and windows xp install. But when I boot up it says that I have 2 Windows XP's to choose from, obviously only one works and the other says I need to re-install \system32\hal.dll . I just want to know how to get rid of the invalid referrence to the non-existent OS.

Go to start>run>c:/boot.ini
and post the content of that text file on this forum. Maybe I can help.

go to msconfig, boot.ini then click check all boot paths, the click yes to delete the non working system.

Thanx for the info guys, the msconfig worked beautifully. I was lookin at the msconfig and boy is it a useful utility, opened up a lot of new possibilities for me. Thanx a million.
