1680x1050 Or 1900x1200?

Along with the other components I'll be buying, I was thinking of getting a new monitor, as my current one is a little small for the 4870 X2 I'll be getting.

I had my eye fixed on an 24" screen priced at around £270 giving me the 1900x1200 resolution. But I'm asking whether there's a big difference between 1680x1050 and 1900x1200 .. is it very noticeable? Thing is the minimum size for 1900 resolution is the 24" and the monitor sizes are available in 20, 22 and 24. The 20" monitors will actually provide the 1680x1050 resolution and not just the 22" .. so I may as well go for the 20" if I settle for 1680... but is an additional £100 worth the exta 4 inches, higher resolution and maximising the use out of the graphics card? Also, there's the problem it may not even fit!

What do you think guys?

I personally would take the 24". Just my 2 cents, and it's really a personal choice. I enjoy having high resolution and big monitors/tvs.

get the 20" and take the money you saved and upgrade your video card...? that's what I would do...

Then there would be no point in upgrading the video card, because you would not need all that power for lower resolutions.

You need at least a 1920x1200 monitor to justify purchasing a HD 4870 X2.

Get the 24" monitor for sure. I bought one and have never been happier. I also bought my mom a 20" monitor and you can notice the difference. But then again I am really picky about size. I have a 61" 1080P HDTV in my small apartment living room lol.

My thoughts exactly. No point in getting such a high powered gpu otherwise..

I just REALLY hope I don't get any dead pixels. My biggest fear :/

Edit: .. ALSO .. space is an issue .. if people here have 24" LCDs could you post the height of the screen, including the stand .. from the very bottom to the very top. Thank you!

if you are worried about dead pixels, you can do what i did.
I waited for a discount at Office Max (i think) and i got an 20.1 inch for $180 last year, and they have a great return policy, which was if i was unsatisfied with it, i can return it or exchange it for any reason at all. The one i bought had a dead pixel, returned it and got another one the next day, took only about 5 min for the swap.

Nice choice on the 4870 X2, i wish i could afford a GPU like that... but the 8800GT is working fine for me now, I'll get a new one when i cant max out games anymore.
