Hello Great Guys and Gals,

My friend is asking me to build him a decent computer for 1k. I haven't been following hardware and stuff for the last few months because work has been keeping me busy :( So I come to you guys and gals for advise.

Below is what I have picked out so far please advise!

CPU <---------- link
Mother Board <----------link
RAM <----------link
Video Card <----------link
HD <---------- link

I feel that this build can be better for 1k especially on the video card and RAM the processor and Motherboard are the ones I would Prefer but I am very open to discussion. Also is there anything I am forgetting? The case and monitor will be bought off line so those are not included in the 1k and he might be willing to go over for S&H and Tax so please keep that in mind

Thanks In advanced!!! :)

Is it for gaming?
Videocard options
if it is then get the 8800 GTS $400 = High End (DX10 card future proof)
too hight?
Get this *best in class* X1950 Pro $180 or XT $210
still too high?
get a 7600 GT $100

NEXT

the E6600 is good.

Get a board that Supports DDR2 800

Get DDR2 800 (at least 1 Gig)

Get a seagate 7200.10 Perpendicular recording drive.

Ya definatley go with a mobo that supports ddr2 800 and ddr2 800 ram, you could also get a wd raptor which is a 10K RPM hdd, I don't know if that is slower or faster than the on LambOfGod suggested but the one I have seems a lot faster than my old sata drive...

The ones I have picked out right now are not the same as the ones you are advising me to get? Not to be mean because you are trying to help me but please read the post before replying.

Also this machine I am building is for gaming, School work (which consists of writing papers and possibly some picture editing) and watching DVD's

Also if you guys and gals don't mind please include a link to the products you recommend.

THANKS :)

That motherboard supports ddr2 800, but the RAM you have picked out is 533. Lamb is referring to a hard drive like this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16822148142

Oh and in my short time being here, I've learned that whatever LambOfGod says, you take as gold. =)

:D

That drive is exactly what i am referring too, The reason i recommended that drive you you instead of a raptor is because they offer more storage space and arnt as expensive. But they are a bit slower, But if you have the cash i definetly recommend a raptor. I bought one and i love it. I am also going to get a Segate 7200.10 as my storage drive soon (when taxes come in).

The board you picked looks Great

Alot of people are raving about this board though
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813188009

or if your more budget orinted then look into one like this

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813128012

but the one you picked will work fine for you.

here are the links as promised.

X1950 Pro (good Deal for the Price!)

7600 GT

First of all, Thanks for all the help and the links to the products. Here how it stands now.

Optical Drive
Hard Drive
Video Card
Memory
Mother Board
Processor

I feel pretty good about this build assuming that it will all work together. To my knowledge it all should work nicely and the total with Shipping and taxes comes to 999.09 so its on budget. Any last little things I should know please feel free to give me any input because I am completely open to changes. THANKS guys

I like it, Glad you took in my suggestions, its going to be a killer machine.

Only thing that kinda scares me is the reviews on that motherboard..

Now i know you cant just go by reviews, but for $170 i would look for something with a better reputation.

Thats just my, i would check some review sites for the best $150 dollar Skt 775 board, look around a little more maybe.

ask some members who are running skt 775 and see what they think.
