Have you tried just plugging straight into the modem and see what happens. I know it will take out the internet but maybe your ISP did not set something up right at the node.

You could also check and make sure all your network adapter driver are up to date. I also know that all of Internet Security programs monitor network traffic so it installs a driver to do this.

A few years back Linux (mainly Debian/Ubuntu) had a terrible time with laptops...
Also, I don't think NetStumbler is Windows 6.0 or higher compatible. So Vista or higher. We use netstumbler for our IT dept and we realized that it install but doesn't recognize any network cards.
Just confess.... problem solved. Lieing about the matter will just get you into deeper trouble. And one last note, you will get caught... technology traces everything.

The reason for this is because Windows is currently using system files at the time Windows Updates are downloading and installing. When you see this screen at shutdown and start up, this is the time where Windows can finally update these files without any other processes or issues...

I don't think you can go back under the recall. That laptop is old and only gave like a two year window. Also the laptop just had a poor cooling design.
