    You won't lose anything unless your drive head is off-track, then the arm will write over and "forget" about certain parts of the drive.

    Not likely...the operating system is not held in the recovery partition, only your files.

    If there's a recovery partition then that should be the one that is taking up the rest of the space....delete it if you don't need it. Most people don't, if they regularly back up their data.

    From here you should just put the added memory back in the system and back up everything you need. After that, simply reinstall the OS by buying the bootable CD and inserting it when you first start your computer from a cold boot.

    Get Gaim or Qnext...both better alternatives. AIM is full of spyware. Even if you do want to use AIM, you'll need to install the AIM Ad Hack to remove the stupid ads.

    I don't know how you can install any programs for any amount of functionality on a 2GB hard disk -- seems almost impossible, because Windows XP takes up 1.5GB of space. Check your hard disk manufacturer's web site to seeif there are any tools that allow you to fill up the rest of the space on...

    Yes if these kinds of things are happening to your PC then you will most certainly need to reinstall Windows....but not from the Windows GUI! Make sure you buy the bootable CD. AMD, have you recently upgraded your RAM?
