Computer energy gets more efficient as time passes [it does not make sense you will never a more powerful psu to be "future proof" now does it] a Q6600 uses much more energy than a 2nd gen i5 his build is more low end than high end, so I would have spent part of the psu cost into a better cpu

I would get an i5 max, i would never recommend i7 for a laptop. its just a battery drain, and besides you would not really notice any difference (laptop use) my opinion..... if you dont care about battery, the toshiba Quismos (i believe thats what its called) are really good but expect no more...
