I agree with Qiranworms. I used Gentoo as my first linux experience. What an absoloute nightmare to get running, but very rewarding when gotten right.

    Wierd Windows Startup

Ive had this problem before, after doing a repair or something along those lines. The file which you want to edit is 'BOOT.INI'. This file when loaded during the boot stage give the user a choice of which Operating System to load. If you go to a Win Explorer and tools > Folder Options, uncheck...

    Dual-Boot Questions

Just a couple of pointers.. Be sure to formatt the external storage using FAT / FAT32, this will enable you to share data between the two operating systems. When installing Linux / Windows it would be a safer bet to install your Windows partition first, as Microsoft like to ignore that there...

want to add a computer tonetwork...

Is it a wired NIC that you will be using? You will need to ensure that the device is listed in the /dev directory. If so you will need to run a DHCP daemon to pick up an I.P address from the router (assuming you use DHCP). I think slackware uses dhclient.

    block certain things

    double os

Using FAT32 for your WinXP partition is fine, you just lose out on features like encryption, file level security etc, which is enjoyed when using NTFS. The drive which you are planning to split up can have more than one FS, once partitioned think of the one drive as however many seperate...

    Wireless Routers

I found that my Linksys WRT54G signal strength was excellent. I can access from all over my house, garden and next door. Can't really fault this router, works flawlessly!

    networking, sharing files

Are they setup in a workgroup? If so, when trying to access files from one machine to another, access will be denied. Try adding the user account of the machine trying to access the files to the machine which is hosting the files. I think this should solve your problem. The reason being that...
